Raleigh, North Carolina (December 5, 2017). Holly Hill Hospital, LLC’s new Adult Psychiatric Hospital reached a major milestone in construction this week with a beam signing and “topping off” event. Adorned with an American flag, a tree and signatures from Holly Hill Hospital leaders, physicians, community partners, contractors and construction workers, the final steel beam was raised into place at approximately 12:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 21.

The tradition of setting a tree and flag atop the final structural beam has been practiced by construction workers for over 1,000 years. The tree is said to symbolize growth, life and good luck, and the flag is displayed as a patriotic symbol.

“Today’s beam signing marks a significant milestone in Holly Hill Hospital’s investment into the North Carolina community,” said Amanda A. Johanson, Chief Executive Officer, Holly Hill Hospital. “We are looking forward to moving into the next construction phase and further increasing access to psychiatric and addictive disease treatment for North Carolinians in crisis.”

Holly Hill Hospital’s new Adult Hospital will open in 2018 as a three-story building with 64 adult psychiatric beds and the only Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) program in Wake County. Located on Michael J. Smith Lane, the new facility will open in time to celebrate Holly Hill’s 40th Ruby Anniversary and will solidify the health system as an important part of Raleigh’s healthcare history and future.

“Patients are at the center of everything we do,” said Thomas Cornwall, MD, Medical Director. “Being able to offer modernized ECT will change the lives of our patients and their families and hopefully help to reduce some of the stigma that has been associated with seeking treatment.”

At present, Holly Hill offers inpatient and outpatient day treatment for adults 18 and older at their Falstaff Road campus, and inpatient services for children ages 5 to 17 at their Michael J. Smith Lane campus.

Located in Raleigh, North Carolina, Holly Hill Hospital is a multi-campus psychiatric and addictive disease health system that has equipped patients across the lifespan with the coping skills they need to thrive.
